Hi I had this problem with my wifes c4 Grand picasso. Top box on passenger side doesn't stay closed. Faced with a load of money to replace it I thought I would have a go myself.. Fixed it yay!
here is how
Firstly removed the lid from the car, there is a blanking plate at the back and once removed you will see 4 torx screws that will need to be removed. The damper rod on the inside edge of the lid is very flexible and can be eased over its fixing allowing the whole lid to be removed from the car.
Looking at it I found that the lid is two halves of a clam shell that are glued together with some bits of old horse. Using a 1” chisel and working from the rear edge of the lid I was able quite easily to separate the two. I broke a couple of plastic welds holding the metal hinge / strengthener to the bottom clam so you may want to beware of that.
Once apart the bottom half looks like this. (note that the lock catch is removed)
The top looks like this from the inside. You can see where it has been glued..
The problem is that a silly plastic bung will have fallen out of the lock catch allowing it to flap around.
I replaced it with a bolt (the return spring is missing in this picture
You could try cutting a small hole through the underside of the lid of here is the measurement from the edge. (Note I had found the return spring and installed it.
Glued the two halves back together with araldite and it is back in the car and working fine.
Cost = ¼ tube of araldite, a small bolt that I found in the shed, 2 gin and tonics and an hour of my time.
Hope this helps
